Meet the Pastor

Rev. Josh Milliron

My Family
My family of four lives in Moss Bluff. My wife, Allison, and I have been married for 12 years. Together we have two children, a daughter and a son who both attend school at Moss Bluff Elementary.

My Ministry
Throughout my life the United Methodist Church has nurtured my faith and soul. I grew up in the home of a United Methodist pastor, and while at Centenary College, I heard a call to preach the Word and do the work of an evangelist (2 Timothy 4:1-5). Since that time I have been preparing others to follow Jesus Christ using my gifts of preaching, teaching, and leadership. During the last 17 years I have served with 7 different churches and with several national and international missions. This year I am beginning my 12th year as a full time pastor in the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Here at the Moss Bluff United Methodist Church I serve and lead out of my core values. My core values are:
  1. Faith in Jesus Christ - I believe my highest priority is to offer the message of faith in Jesus Christ to people, inviting them into a life of following and serving the Lord.
  2. Children's & Youth Ministry - I believe more people discover the life of faith during their formative years more than at any other stage in life. I believe to be faithful to the Lord the kids, pre-teens, & teenagers of the church are to be the highest priority age group in the church.
  3. Hospitality & Table Fellowship - I believe one of the primary ways Jesus was in ministry with people was to "break bread" with them and share in table fellowship. In my ministry I make it my practice to share coffee time and meal times with others.
  4. Ministries of Comfort & Healing - I believe one of the great callings of the church is for us to be a community where ministries of comfort & healing and friendship & support happen. I believe one of my responsibilities as a pastoral leader is to lead our church in living out the Gospel's teachings to "bear one another's burdens" and "love your neighbor as yourself".
  5. Prayer Ministry - I believe the primary way the Lord works in and through the church is through prayer. With this in mind I lead by example. In addition to my daily practice of prayer, I set aside one day per month for a prayer retreat when I seek the Lord, pray for our church, and pray for the Lord's ministry through our church.
  6. Compassionate Help for those with Need - I believe the Gospel teaches that authentic, Christian faith expresses itself in loving action for those with need. I believe it is my responsibility as a pastoral leader to lead our church in fulfilling this mission in the world.
  7. Making Disciples - I believe the Lord has called us to do more than preach a message of faith in Jesus Christ. I believe we are called to invite and lead people to be followers of Jesus, to become people who pray like Jesus prayed, to become people who love like Jesus loved, to become people who serve like Jesus served, to become people who value what Jesus valued, to become people who do the things Jesus did, and to become like Peter, James, John and the other disciples in the New Testament who were changed by the Gospel and who changed the world. When I study the Gospels I observe that there were seven practices Jesus used to shape the life of faith in the first disciples. They were:
               a) Small groups (Mark 3:13-14)
               b) Mentoring (Mark 9:14-29, 33-37)
               c) Spiritual field trips (Matthew 16:13-28)
               d) Retreats (Mark 6:31-32, 9:2-8)
               e) Service to others (Mark 6:35-44)
               f) Witness to others (Luke 10:1-3, 17)
               g) In-depth Bible study (Luke 24:44-48).

When I reflect on the things Jesus did, I believe it is my calling to lead the church in offering the same seven disciple-making practices to anyone who will take part in them, trusting that the Spirit of Christ will use these seven practices to shape the life of faith of those particpating.
